My Day Off

My son is at daycare and I'm having a nice, relaxing day at home. Doing some chores, making some jewelry and just taking it easy. I haven't had a day to myself in a very long time. With everything that's been going on, I needed this badly.

This could be a terrific opportunity for me! Am I prepared for it? Not in the least bit!

Daylight Savings

Fall Back. Gain an extra hour. It's 6pm and it's pitch black out. Goodbye summer, I hope winter isn't too cold or snowy this year. I'd definitely like a break, since I'm A single mom.

I'm hoping the holiday season is a good one for the shop this year. I'm currently on the child care voucher program though the state to help with child care expenses. I hope a spot opens up soon. I'm also working 10 hours a week part time Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon along with working full time at the print shop. Making it as a single mom is quite a tough and bumpy road. I forget so many things. It can be scary at times.

In my purse, I keep a can of pepper spray and a pocket knife. You never know when these things will come in handy. I also keep a spare house key in the same compartment as I have never forgotten my purse running out the door, but I have forgotten my keys. I have a hook high up on a door in my home because my son likes to get gum from my purse. I feel a bit empowered knowing I have a chance of getting away if I ever get attacked. It can feel pretty scary being alone and having to take care of another person.

I did get a few new items posted to my shop this weekend. I have been experimenting with copper, etching and different patinas:

I've decided to offer free shipping in my shop. It's a desperate attempt to make some money to help pay bills. It's been so tough being a single mom. Daycare alone exceeds $600 a month! I really love making jewelry too. I'd love to make more sales so I can quit the second job and spend more time with my son. I don't get to see him as much as I'd like to now that I work two jobs.

My son has been quite the little helper now too. He feeds the cat, does laundry and has become quite self sufficient and independent! He loves watching me make jewelry and asks lots of questions.
I've also been working on the look and feel of my shop with new photos and a new banner. Hopefully at some point this week, I can get my domain finished with my wholesale items and a new gallery.

Saturday

Yep, it's Saturday. I finally have weekends off after 3 years. I work Monday through Friday now. I take my son to school every morning, then head off to work. It is just so surreal to me. I've always worked nights and weekends. Although daycare is expensive, I get to have two hours each day alone to rest and relax after working!

I've been working on taking some new photos for Autumn Equinox. I've decided to go with the different colored, textured paper I found at the craft store. The colors are lovely and will compliment the upcoming holidays. Summer has been slow as far as sales go, so I'm hoping with the shops fresh, new look, it will help this single mom who also works a full time job, part time job and trying to go back to school, get ahead!

Well, I'm off to clean and take more photos. I really should try to blog a bit more.
